UKSS hits a Million
UKSS hits a million! The UK Sire Services team were delighted to announce in July 2006 that they had reached the target of ONE MILLION doses of semen that have been processed since we opened in April 2002! Mike Houghton. Chairman at UKSS, paid tribute to the whole team at Venton Stud when he announced the landmark at the recent AGM. "Through the support of breeders across the country, shareholders,Directors and all the staff it is with great pride and pleasurethat I let you know of reaching this goal. It is just a start and we must now continue the hard work to build for the future of the whole British cattle industry." The semen is processed in either the on-farm or on-stud laboratory, and then quarantined and stored for distribution at the Main Store on an industrial estate at Heathfield, near Bovey Tracey, Devon.

Visitors from South Africa
Visitors from South Africa came to the stud just before the Dairy Event. These were led by Colin Duncan from the British Embassy in Cape Town and with Chris Cloete, our agents at Genimex, at their head. By working in close cooperation with the embassy, the British Livestock Genetics Consortium Ltd, Cattle Services (Ayr) and Genimex, UKSS put together a tight programme of visits much appreciated by the team from South Africa. "These are some of the top Ayrshire breeders in South Africa", said Chris at the Dairy Event, "and they want to see for themselves exactly what British Ayrshires can do alongside North American bloodlines. The results are remarkable and I know that we will be ordering more semen from Cattle Services because of the visit".
