We are able to assist in finding markets for semen both at home through the many semen retailers in the UK and abroad through our experience of the export market.

Through our membership of BLG we are also able to encourage our customers to visit overseas clients and apply for government assistance in travel or in bringing potential clients to the UK.

UK Sire Services is here to get the very best from your herd and adding value to your bottom line. We view the relationship between the bull owner or agent and ourselves as a partnership and as such we are keen to develop the lines of communication wherever possible.

Dairy bulls will usually begin to produce semen satisfactorily at 12 to 15 months of age and beef bulls a little later. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that a bull with a proven record of natural service will be suitable for AI. However, those with a successful natural service record usually adapt well to semen collection on stud, whilst young or inexperienced bulls benefit from the competent handling available.

We are only able to accept bulls free of IBR at the centre, we can arrange a blood test to be carried out for this purpose. In addition to this only bulls from EBL attested herds are generally accepted. However, if your herd is not EBL attested, please call us as it may be possible to make special arrangements.

Getting Semen Collected From Your Bull - A Step By Step Guide (Part 2)

12.
A further series of tests will be completed on the bull whilst in the stud isolation unit and, once we have heard that all are passed satisfactorily the bull will be cleared by the Ministry to move onto the stud. Although this should be within a 30 day period from arrival at the stud, we are finding that with a different timing on testing now required the period is often a little longer. Samples for DNA testing are taken at this point.
13.
For a full list of tests, please contact the stud and we will gladly send you the relevant details.
14.
Once the bull goes into the main bull barn collection of semen can begin. Very often bulls come to us as virgin bulls and will need some training for semen collection.
15.
The Contract will have informed UKSS how many straws are required and we will then work with the bulls on a regular basis to fulfill that order. The stud make a point of keeping all the owners informed of the progress of their bulls on a regular basis.
16.
The semen will be processed at the time of collection and checked for post thaw motility before being passed as fit to go into quarantine and thus storage.
17.
The semen is held in quarantine at our store for a month and is then released for dispatch or storage.
18.
The semen is counted and checked again at the time of storage when it is added to the database for ease of management and identification.
19.
To move the semen from the store at any time to any destination UK Sire Services require an Order Form to be completed and signed.
20.
Once the bull nears completion of his contracted amount of semen to be collected, the owner or agent will be notified by phone to check on any possible extension or to arrange transport away from the stud.
21.
We insist on transport sent to fetch bulls adhering to strict guidelines laid down in our license and, again, we reserve the right to turn away vehicles that we consider a risk to our status.
22.
UK Sire Services prides itself on our service to customers as well as our management of the bulls whilst they are with us. As a final part of this partnership we ask all owners or agents to fill out a questionnaire at point of departure so as to enable us to maintain the high standards that we set ourselves.
